Le dialogue luthéro-catholique sur l’eucharistie et la question de la communion eucharistique

Face aux multiples controverses relatives à l’eucharistie, l’article propose d’en revenir tout d’abord à celle qui prévalait aux débuts, au XVIe siècle, avec la prise de position de Martin Luther et la réaction du concile de Trente, en y abordant notamment la question de la présence réelle du Christ dans l’eucharistie et la notion de sacrifice. Il présente ensuite les divers dialogues œcuméniques et les progrès qu’ils ont apportés, en particulier le document « Le Repas du Seigneur » et les études du groupe de travail œcuménique allemand de théologiens protestants et catholiques « Le sacrifice de Jésus-Christ et sa présence dans l’Église », ainsi que « Les anathèmes du XVIe siècle sont-ils encore actuels ? ». Il décrit enfin des propositions récentes, suggérant d’avancer encore plus dans la ligne d’un document élaboré par trois instituts de recherches œcuméniques, intitulé «Le partage eucharistique entre les Églises est possible : Thèses sur l’hospitalité eucharistique».

The Luthero-Catholique dialogue about the eucharist and the question of the eucharistic community

In view of the many controversies about the eucharist, the article will first take up the issue current in its beginnings in the 16th century, with Martin Luther’s position and the reaction of the Council of Trent, most particularly the question of the real presence of Christ in the eucharist and the notion of sacrifice. It will then present the various ecumenical exchanges and the progress they made, especially the document ‘The Lord’s Supper’ and the studies by the German working group of Protestant and Catholic theologians entitled “The sacrifice of Jesus Christ and his presence in the Church”, as well as “Are the 16th-century anathemata still pertinent today?”. Finally, the article will discuss recent proposals suggesting moving still further forwards, particularly the document proposed by three ecumenical research institutes, “Eucharistic sharing among Churches is possible: theses on eucharistic hospitality”.
