L’état de la théologie africaine face à la crise de l’inculturation

Cet article examine l’état actuel des théologies africaines à la lumière de la « crise de l’inculturation ». Il soutient que l’inculturation, longtemps considérée comme pierre angulaire de l’identité théologique africaine, devient insuffisante si elle se limite à un simple retour aux traditions ancestrales. Les théologies africaines contemporaines privilégient désormais la synodalité, les méthodes autobiographiques et narratives, les perspectives féministes, les approches socio-pédagogiques et une spiritualité interculturelle. Ces évolutions traduisent un engagement dynamique face à la mondialisation, à la sécularisation, à la concurrence pentecôtiste et interreligieuse, ainsi qu’aux réalités sociales pressantes. Loin d’un déclin, cette crise annonce un renouveau : l’émergence d’un pluralisme théologique africain inclusif, contextuel, spirituel et ouvert au monde.

The state of African theology faced with the crisis of inculturation

This article will examine the present state of African theologies in the light of the ‘inculturation crisis’. It affirms that inculturation, long considered the keystone of African theological identity, is insufficient, if it is limited to a simple return to ancestral traditions. Contemporary African theologies now emphasize synodality, autobiographical and narrative methods, feminist perspectives, socio-educational approaches and an intercultural spirituality. These developments partake of a dynamic commitment towards globalization, secularization, to Pentecostal and inter-religious competition, as well as to urgent social realities. Far from representing a decline, this crisis announces a renewal : the emergence of an African theological pluralism that is  inclusive, contextual, spiritual and open to the world.
