Sensus fidei fidelium. Enjeux d’avenir d’une notion classique

S’il est une notion qui, à notre époque, fait un retour dans le discours ecclésial et intéresse les théologiens, c’est le sensus fidei fidelium. Est-ce pour répondre à l’air du temps citoyen ou bien pour s’interroger, dans une situation de non évidence de la proposition chrétienne, sur la « boussole » interne qui permet de la maintenir vivante ? L’article répond à cette question en situant le sensus fidei fidelium dans l’ « architecture » relationnelle, toute en tensions, de la tradition ; il analyse ensuite les mutations historiques, intervenues au sein de celle-ci, et s’ouvre ainsi sur les potentialités d’avenir que contient cette notion, au moment historique qui est le nôtre.

If there is a notion that today is coming back into Church discourse and interests theologians, it is indeed the sensus fidei fidelium. Is this to reply to ambiant questions in the era of the citizen or to examine, in a situation where the Christian proposal is not evident, the internal “compass” enabling the proposal to stay alive ? The article responds to this question by placing the sensus fidei fidelium in the relational ‘“architecture”, full of tension, of tradition; it goes on to analyze the historical mutations that developed within tradition and opens onto potentials for the future contained in the notion, at the historic time we live in.
