Hommes et femmes, discerner ensemble la tradition de l’Évangile

Dans les débats actuels qui traversent l’Église catholique, les voix féministes sont parfois disqualifiées a priori comme excessives, non seulement par des hommes, mais aussi par des femmes qui ont une vision négative du féminisme ou qui veulent être intégralement « loyales » envers l’Église catholique. Nous proposons ici une réflexion critique et constructive en quatre temps. Par le recours à l’épistémologie féministe telle qu’elle se définit hors du champ de la théologie, nous établirons d’abord qu’il est légitime et judicieux d’écouter avec soin les interpellations dérangeantes venant de femmes. Nous prêterons aussi attention à la voix d’une théologienne, Lucia Vantini, qui identifie dysfonctionnements et dénis dans l’Église catholique, sans congédier l’espérance. Nous argumenterons ensuite que la fructification de la charité est la visée unifiante de la tradition chrétienne, en vue de distinguer entre la tradition de l’Évangile et les traditions ecclésiales. L’objectif est de soutenir un discernement bifocal, par les hommes et les femmes en conversation, de la puissance de l’Évangile dans le temps intermédiaire qui est le nôtre. Nous formulerons enfin quelques orientations et recommandations en termes de postures et de pratiques.

Men and women, discerning together the tradition of the Gospel

In the current debates in the Catholic Church, feminist voices are sometimes disqualified a priori as excessive, not only by men, but also by women who have a negative view of feminism or who wish to be totally ‘loyal’ to the Catholic Church. Here, we shall propose critical and constructive thinking in four phases. In examining feminist epistemology as it is defined outside the field of theology, we shall first argue that it is legitimate and judicious to listen carefully to the uncomfortable calls coming from women. We shall also pay particular attention to the theologian Lucia Vantini, who has identified dysfunctioning and denial in the Catholic Church, without giving up on hopefulness. We shall then argue that fructifying charity is the unifying aim of Christian tradition, in order to distinguish between the Gospel tradition and ecclesial traditions. The goal is to underwrite a bifocal discernment, by women and men in conversation, of the power of the Gospel in this intermediate time we are in. Finally, we shall outline some directions and recommendations in terms of posture and practices.
