Le champ de l’écrit sur l’objet religieux dans le monde arabe est, au long du XXe siècle, le cadre de recherches inédites portées par des hommes de différentes conditions mais dotés d’un capital culturel. Ils défendent le droit à une expression libre. Certains ont suivi un cursus de savant musulman ; tous sont, à un degré ou à un autre, marqués par des questionnements, démarches ou méthodes cristallisés dans l’espace européen. Ils ne constituent pas un mouvement cohérent, à l’inverse de leurs adversaires qui s’appuient sur les institutions traditionnelles des sciences islamiques. La réaction de ces derniers s’étend de la réplique argumentée à la justification de l’application de la peine capitale.
The space devoted to writing on the religious object in the Arab world throughout the 20th century has provided a framework for unexpected research by authors of different conditions but all possessing a cultural capital. They defend their right to free expression. Some were educated as Muslim authorities ; to some extent or other, all are characterised by their questioning, approaches or methods that have crystalised in the European area. They are not part of a coherent movement, contrary to their adversaries working on the basis of traditional institutions of Islamic sciences. The reaction on the part of the latter runs from argumented reply to justifying application of capital punishment.
