Demande politique, réponse confessionnelle ? Les médiations de la communauté Sant’Egidio

Depuis la fin du monde bipolaire, la résolution des conflits est un champ pluriel investi par une variété d’acteurs non régaliens. Parmi ceux-ci, la communauté catholique de Sant’Egidio est régulièrement sollicitée par les diplomates. L’article interroge cette demande politique : elle procède d’un contexte international, et de l’histoire militante et religieuse du groupe. Cette histoire dote la communauté de ressources comparables à celles d’autres acteurs confessionnels, mais elle inscrit aussi son action dans un répertoire sécularisé et politique. Elle rencontre enfin des limites, internes comme contextuelles.
Since the end of the bipolar world order, conflict resolution has become a field of plurality in which a variety of non-governmental actors take part. Among these, the Catholic Community of Sant’Egidio is regularly called upon by diplomats. This article examines that political call for action: this is based on an international context and on the militant and religious history of the group. This history provides the community with resources comparable to other confessional actors, but also places its activity in a secularized and political repertory, which meets with internal as well as contextual limits.
