The classical notion of divine providence (the world governed by a benevolent God) raises several objections: the presence of evil, human liberty, conception of divine agency. In contrast to the Stoics’ perspective emphasizing the order of the world, Christian tradition highlights a freedom that enables a history. Pursuing this calls upon a plurality of points of reference.
