Le théologico-politique : une liaison dangereuse

Cet article entend mettre en lumière les dangers que représente le théologico-politique, aussi bien pour la démocratie que pour le christianisme. Noué depuis le XVIIe siècle par des philosophes (Spinoza et Hobbes), ce concept n’a cessé d’être repris – par Carl Schmitt en particulier, au début du XXe – et reste d’une actualité brûlante. Pour plus de clarté, le théologico-politique sera distingué ici des nombreuses théologies politiques qui ont été élaborées par des théologiens, à partir du tournant constantinien.
This article will highlight the dangers represented by the theologico-political, both for democracy and for Christianity. Brought forth since the 17th century by philosophers (Spinoza and Hobbes), this concept has been repeatedly taken up – by Carl Schmitt in particular, in the early 20th century – and remains of burning relevance today. To pursue greater clarity, the theologico-political will be distinguished from the numerous political theologies that have been developed by theologians from the time of Constantine on.
